U.S. Senator Jeffords Joins Freedom Walk for Ngawang

This story was picked up by World Tibet Network News. We regret that we have been unable to obtain further details of Ben Glahn's endeavor.

SHREWSBURY, Tuesday June 29 4:36 AM ET (States News Service)
Ben Glahn is hiking the entire length of Vermont's Long Trail to raise awareness of a former Middlebury College classmate now imprisoned in Tibet. For a few miles, Glahn was joined by U.S. Senator James Jeffords. Ngawang Choephel, a former Fulbright scholar, has been jailed for nearly four years in his homeland. Captured in Tibet filming traditional music and dance, Choephel was imprisoned by the Chinese and accused of spying. Glahn is hiking the 270-mile-long trail to bring attention to Choephel's plight... and to raise money to help the prisoner's mother visit him. Jeffords has appealed to the Chinese on Choephel's behalf, but there have been NO results so far.
