Adopts Ngawang as Prisoner of Conscience

"Missing in Tibet"

Ngawang Choephel is a musicologist who has devoted his life to traditional Tibetan performing arts. He studied in the United States as a Fulbright scholar and returned to Tibet in 1995 to document musical and other artistic material. Since then, he has been arrested, tried in secret without legal representation, and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for this innocent activity. He has never advocated or used violence and has never worked against the regime. He has been adopted by Amnesty International as a prisoner of conscience.
