Eagles BBS

In the 1980's before the internet went commercial and became available outside of research and educational settings there was a proliferation of dialup BBS's where people could exchange messages, share files and even chat realtime. The BBS's provided a more congenial and private setting than almost any of nowadays "web boards" do. With the onset of the public internet and HTTP the old terminal base BBS's almost dissapeared along with the software to run them. Nowadays most users would not even know how to deal terminal based software.

When most of the BBS's had already closed, i was lucky enough to find an archive that had most of the more popular BBS's. I found Eagles BBS wich is licensed under the GPL and saved a copy. I have run ebbs on Debian and i have configured it to run under OpenBSD 3.2. The configuration for FreeBSD had to be changed to use libcrypto instead of libcrypt. Both the original Linux version and the patched OpenBSD versions are here for public download. I plan to create an OpenBSD port for EBBS soon. Enjoy !
